Watering
Newly planted trees require consistent watering while their root systems become established. Water thoroughly around the root ball and surrounding soil, allowing the water to soak deeply rather than only wetting the surface.
Mulching
Apply approximately 2–4 inches of mulch around the base of the tree. Keep mulch a few inches away from the trunk. Mulch helps retain moisture, regulate soil temperature and protect the root zone.
Fertilizing
Proper nutrition can help support healthy growth. Fertilizer needs vary depending on the tree, soil conditions and time of year, so follow recommended application rates and avoid over-fertilizing.
Pruning
Remove dead, damaged or problematic branches when necessary.
Avoid excessive pruning while the tree is establishing and maintain the tree's natural shape whenever possible.
